French singer France Gall dies aged 70

Gall, who rose to fame in the 1960s, had been battling cancer for two years

French singer France Gall has died at the age of 70 after suffering from cancer for two years. Gall, who was born Isabelle Geneviève Marie Anne Gall in Paris on 9 October 1947, rose to fame in the 1960s with her hit songs "Poupée de cire, poupée de son" and "Les sucettes". She went on to release 17 studio albums, eight live albums and 11 compilation albums, and sold more than 20 million records worldwide.

Gall's death was announced by her family in a statement released on 7 January 2018. They said that she had died "peacefully" at her home in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris. She is survived by her husband, Michel Berger, and their two children, Pauline and Raphaël.

Gall's death has been met with sadness by fans and fellow musicians around the world. She was remembered as a talented singer and a beloved icon of French pop music.
