New England Patriots Sign Ezekiel Elliott to One-Year Contract
Contract Breakdown
According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, Elliott's contract includes a base salary of $1.55 million and a $600,000 signing bonus. However, the base salary drops to just $1 million if Elliott fails to meet certain incentives.
Incentive Benchmarks
To earn the full $6 million, Elliott must reach the following incentive benchmarks:
- Playing Time: Elliott must play at least 60% of the Patriots' offensive snaps.
- Scrimmage Yards: Elliott must accumulate at least 1,000 scrimmage yards.
Half-Salary Bonuses
Elliott's deal is essentially half-salary bonuses, half. This means that half of his salary is paid in the form of bonuses that are tied to his performance.
The Patriots are expected to use Elliott as a complementary back to second-year running back Rhamondre Stevenson. Elliott is a veteran with a proven track record, so he could be a valuable asset to the Patriots' offense.
