Chelsea have announced the signing of Manchester City winger Cole Palmer for a fee of £47 million. The 21-year-old joins the Blues on a five-year contract and becomes the club's second summer signing after Raheem Sterling. Palmer, who has been capped by England at under-21 level, made 50 appearances for Manchester City since breaking into the first team in 2021. During that time, he scored 13 goals and provided 15 assists. The England international is seen as a versatile attacker who can play anywhere across the front line. He is expected to challenge Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic for a place in Chelsea's starting XI. Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was delighted to secure the services of Palmer. "Cole is a talented, young player who we have been tracking for a long time," said Tuchel. "He is a versatile attacker who can play in a number of positions and he has the quality to make a big impact at Chelsea. "We believe that Cole has the potential to become a top player and we are excited to have him as part of our squad." Palmer, who joined Manchester City at the age of nine, admitted that he was "thrilled" to be joining Chelsea. "I am so happy to be joining Chelsea," said Palmer. "This is a huge club with a great history and I am excited to be part of it. I want to help the team win trophies and I believe that we can achieve great things together." Palmer's arrival at Chelsea is seen as a major coup for the Blues. The England international is one of the most promising young players in the Premier League and his signing is a sign of the club's ambition under new owner Todd Boehly.
