...Real Person. But the Feelings Are Real'
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Nava Mau, the breakout star of Netflix's chilling new miniseries "Baby Reindeer," has shared an insight into the creator and star Richard Gadd's real relationship with the character Teri, portrayed by Mau.
"Baby Reindeer," which premiered on Friday, April 14, is based on Gadd's real-life stalking ordeal. He has previously confirmed that Teri is not entirely fictional, though some aspects of the character may be dramatized.
In an interview with The Guardian, Mau said that she was drawn to the role of Teri because she saw her own experiences reflected in the character. "I think every woman has had a Teri in their life," she said. "Someone who has made them feel uncomfortable, or who has crossed a boundary."
Mau said that she found it "very difficult" to play Teri at times, but she ultimately wanted to do justice to the character and to Gadd's experience. "I wanted to make sure that I was portraying her in a way that was respectful to Richard and to his story," she said.
Mau's performance has been praised by critics, with many calling it "heartbreaking" and "raw." In a review for The Hollywood Reporter, Daniel Fienberg said that Mau "gives a tour de force performance as Teri, a woman who is both victim and perpetrator."
"Baby Reindeer" is a powerful and disturbing series that explores the complex and often contradictory nature of human relationships. Mau's performance is a standout, and her insights into the character of Teri offer a valuable perspective on the complexities of stalking and abuse.
